I hate to get sentimental about material things but i KNOW the motherfucker will pay one way or the other, in this lifetime not the next! By reaping what he did not sow, he has now incurred all the bad luck and bad karma that would have befallen me. He is finished! Everything he touches going forward will turn to shit. The next ceiling he jumps from will break his neck!

While i was home in Nigeria , i got to chill, relax, breathe but i also did some Posh Nouveau related work.Had a couple of style sessions with a few new clients and i had a ton of fun. It's only Jan and things are off to a great start for me personally and professionally. Psyched!! i am happier and finally sleeping. Who knew!! I am excited for all the cool opportunities 2012 is handing me and i welcome them all with joy ....

Sorry for my Lateness but Happy New year!!! It's been long i know, took some much needed time off from the world to de-stress and clarify and i am better and happier than i have ever been. Hope you are all doing well.i was on Holiday for a month in Motherland Nigeria, and now am back in the US, albeit reluctantly. Africa is Happening!!!!!!! Believe it! Can't wait to go back in a few months. My trip was beyond fun, it was NUCLEAR!!! This is my style photo diary of sorts, Back and Better. May this new year bring Bigger and Better things to us all. My laid back holiday style. I hate packing for trips i always forget shit. In this case,sandals. who forgets sandals on a beach holiday? (this girl)!I usually pack the morning off, don't ask me why, i tend to just throw shit in the suitcase and worry about it when i get to my destination. < clearly not wise if you are the A-personality type but i have been throwing shit in suitcases for as long as i can remember and i ain't about to stop now well into my 20's.

I detest airport checkpoints , i am usually the girl who gets rechecked for every little shit (as if i am really gonna bring down the plane with my contact solution. it 's bad enough i have bangles crawling up both wrists, now you also want to rummage through my shit too? something about random people in white gloves going through my shit in public makes me cringe ...

But i am in the mindset of not stressing about shit i can't control and instead making shit work because lets face it... there are far more important shit to worry about than whether i packed the right shoes to go with the wrong dress.

Friday is here. It is cold and frigid out but it doesn't faze me....will suffer through it ..i' have plans to warm up in the next few weeks on holiday. Bahamas ... Nigeria and back. Long long over due. looking forward to some fun time of beach chilling, fresh food eating galore. Mother land calling. Minna knows what i am on about. I am ready. Looking forward to catchups and hookups and NO driving . Fun countdown begins.

In other events.... The Posh Nouveau pop up shop still going strong.Even much better than expected. Never met a long dress i didn't like. Tight and sexy was never my thing. This cream lace one had me at hello but it needed a little bit of tweaking( hemming and reshaping) to go from like to 'really like'. i am kinda of into ankle lengths at the moment, so already in the flow of reworking some pieces to add to the Posh Nouveau lineup...

that's all for now, gearing up for another duty filled weekend doing Posh Nouveau business. Everyday is a new opportunity to work smarter and better. Taking on a new challenges is a better high for me than rocking the latest trend of the latest 'it' item.

So that's my message today, find your high (whatever gives you life and inspires you to wake up every morning) . it is the thing that makes you give 108% even on those days you feel like you want to crawl under a rock and die. you will know when you find it, it will click when it finds you...

Never back down, never surrender. fight for shit you believe in like your life depends on it. People won't get it in the begining, hell most people may not even get it in the middle or even at all...
but when you know your purpose, the number one person you should set out to impress first and foremost is yourself. Allowing yourself that privilege will make all the difference...it sounds incredibly selfish and self serving to admit it, but if you don't believe in you, you will constantly be seeking approval....make shit happen in your own way, at your own time. Sometimes it is best to stop making plans and just do it.

So that's my message for the day. Just do it! Go for it and just fucking do it. If you fail, fall on your face, at least you took a leap....a step farther than where you started ....

Who i am as a person matters to me the most. i want to be remembered not just but what i wore but how i lived. Having a voice matters more than having the right shoes. Pretty isn't enough. sure it comes in handy every now and then....but you can wake up tomorrow with a big scar ugly scare on your face and people will stop giving a fuck!

I guessi realized i was pretty much earlier than most because people never let me forget it; but then i realized i was smarter than i was pretty and vowed to never let the world forget that...

I can't stand stupidity in human beings but i especially abhor it in women..even worse if they are 'good looking'...i don't care about your shoes, what you wore, how beautiful you are, how cool you are...if you have no opinion about anything or a voice to call your own, you are just 'there' , taking up mass....

There is no excuse for deliberate ignorance , there is nothing attractive about being dumb or sounding dumb, Just ask Paris.

There is no pride in downplaying your intelligence, it is not cute, it is not adorable.
it makes you as woman look weak....
'don't just stand there and look pretty', have an opinion...
Don't just bury your face in books that other people wrote, look up every now and then and think for yourself... form your own opinion. think your own thoughts. Do something other than just be pretty.....know something other than what Vogue and Cosmo tells you...

The media sells us images of empty minded women who have somehow managed to be 'successful' despite being buffons .... wanna be a star? the formula to 'success' is simple....if you can be an idiot and also mean at the same time..throw in a couple of fits fights, a couple of mindless beefs and good lighting and you can be 'somebody'. Drama sells and grown women beating the shit out of each other is good enough for prime time.The media blames the women and the critics blame the women, the women are to 'whatever' to care. I don't blame either....i blame the audience...you, me..and everyone else...if you cosign foolishness, you are part of the problem.

Instead of complaining about the lack of viable role models to emulate, be the woman you would like to be. be the role model you would like your daughter to see. women who are vocal and intelligent are often portrayed as 'stiff , man-less bitches' <(boner-killers) Palin and Snooki will get airtime before Hillary because the entire world have lost their fucking minds....

Stupidity is a character flaw that i want to discourage. I am motivated to kill it wherever i see it. Contrary to what they taught you in school, stupidity isn't a trait reserved for the uneducated and the unenlightened, most vapid women i know have university degrees. legitimate ones at that. We are a culture of seemingly well read , 'enlightened' women yet i can't leave my apartment without bumping into another pretty fool.The only way to rid stupidity is to denounce it wherever you see it. Call dumb asses out on their ignorance. You don't like what the media is selling you, don't buy it. Don't watch the very same reality shows that make women look like 'simple minded morons' . It is not entertainment.
You may think you are making fun of them but each time you tune in, you are basically cosigning the buffoonery and only contributing to the revolving door of seemingly interchangeable 'ignorant women doing pretty dumb shit' and they are only getting dumber by the minute...

I don't care how good looking, pretty, famous, wealthy, beautiful or gorgeous you, if you are a moron,
you are just taking up space. Pretty will get you a man sure but anyone can be pretty with the right money or the right 'lighting' so aim higher. Pretty may even get you farther in life but it won't keep you there. you can't hide ignorance, sooner or later....sooner than later.... (go ask Palin)

Just because we are eager to cheer on women doesn't mean we should condone stupidity. i talk a lot of shit but i refuse to cosign stupid people. Forget Occupy Wall Street, how about Occupy PrimeTime and force stupid people out of business... we can make stupidity unprofitable...just think, the combined salary of the entire crew and cast of the Jersey Shore will get at least 100 people out of debt....just.saying!

....you already have a brain, use it. I am not asking you to pick up a book or go to get another degree, or stop watching your favourite guilty pleasures.... you don't have to be book smart or have the right grammar or the right formal education or the right anything.....i am asking you to open your eyes and open your mind. That thing between your eyes way way down below that emancipated dome of hair is your head encasing the real gem , YOUR MIND! which we all 'know' is a terrible thing to waste ....

At some point , it has to be more than just being good looking . sure pretty helps but imagine it with a mind that works....knowledge as they say is power! that's my message of the day. spread it, live it, pass it along....

Fun Pack '11

Oct 1 was Nigeria's independence so we partied and made merry ! i styled all my friends in the brightest pieces from the Wardrobe and we celebrated like only the 'Fun Pack' could. It was raining and we didn't give a fuck! Us Africans sure know how to party and PARTY WE DID. it was Glorious !
Met some great people this independence weekend..caught up with some old friends i hadn't seen in a while, made quite a few connections with potential partners/clients for future projects, got more than a little tipsy, talked some shit, danced till my feet ached, screamed till my voice gave in..all in all , it was the most fantastic independence day for so many reasons. This weekend made up for the stress of the days before and i have Karma and my friends and Vodka to thank for it.

Lost and Found

the most amazing thing happened to me this past week. it is so amazing in fact that i still shiver when i think about it. I lost my purse on the train on Tuesday, during rush hour on DC Metro!. Everything of me was in there. Car keys. House Keys. Wallet. Cards. ID. Visa. 2 blackberries and that's just the bits money could replace. i was only few steps down the stairs when i realised my bag was gone, i ran up to see the train pulling away and i froze in shock.I was stranded for 2 hours, 2 torturous hours of playing the woulda, shoulda, coulda.You never realise how lost you are without your phone until the moment you can't remember even your own number. Not one number. It felt sureal. Had no cash to take a cab home, had no card to swipe myself out.

i had multiple anxiety attacks in the span of one evening that i lost count. i was trying to hold it together while i waited to file the report with the one station manager who knew nothing about how to relate to someone in distress. He couldn't have cared less. fast forward 2.5 hrs of nothing ....
random strangers who saw me wanted to help but i didn't know how to ask for help. i hated asking for help not even from people who love me let alone strangers. But a lovely stranger gave me a ride to my apartment , and a neighbour i had never spoken to but for a few quick hellos helped me call emergency maintenance to be let into my apartment. then came the calls, the cancellation of cards, the reliving, the mental backs, then more woulda coulda, shoulda.

i had to tell each friend and each parent what 'd happened, separately. each time feeling less assured that i would ever get my shit back.

They say you never know what you have till its gone....but you never grasp just how much it will SUCK till you lose it. More anxiety, more explanations later, more calls, more stress, more of everything i could have done without. Did a rough calculation of all i would have to pay to get half of the shit back and the numbers went up by the end of each conversation. Oh did i mention that my car had no spare and one of my blackberries apparently had no insurance, the very same insurance i thought i had ...350 for keys and about another 600 or so to replace the phones, and that's just a start.....

For 3 long days, i waited, and hoped and wished for once that my good Karma would kick in and something good would happen.for hours i hoped that someone , anyone would have seen it, picked it up and returned.

In between all of the stress something strange happened, i started to feel a sense of calm or maybe i was numb, couldn't explain then and still can't explain it now....but it was one of those 'go about your business as you would... it could always be worse" type of feelings. So i put everything on hold, deferred replacing the key/phones/ID everything. i went about my business like it didn't faze me, it would hit me every now and then and i would simply brush it off...couldn't let the stress detract my focus from what mattered>>>anything material can be replaced.

By Friday afternoon,3 days after the fact, 2 hours before the Metro lost and found department closed and i still hadn't heard back from their office. No return calls . No return emails. I had a plan to go to the office but for some reason i had a specific time that i felt i was supposed to leave the office 4pm sharp. no earlier , no sooner. So 4pm came and i headed out still no response from Metro about my missing 'anything' No confirmation. No affirmation. No guarantees. The ride from my location to the destination seemed like forever. The walk across the lot to the Metro office felt like the longest walk of all time. All i had was a post-it note with the case number and a sense of calm i couldn't explain.

On the Metro website, on the lost and found page is a line with a paragraph in the lines warning that frequent calls and an a walk-in without a notification won't expedite your case or find you your shit quicker (i paraphrase of course). The two people already in the 'pick up' queue when i got there had been notified....all i had was sticky note with a case number and a sense of calm and a returned feeling of hope that if those two could find their wallets, how hard could it be to find a purse containing two blackberries, a wallet, cash, cards, keys, an external drive with all my important files and valuables ...right? you know your prospects are dismal when the people who should re-assure you don't seem exactly sure what to tell you.... wallet, purse....wallet, purse...wallet, purse.....see! couldn't possibly be hard.

The lady at the window who helped me went in and checked the records and she found nothing. no entires, no confirmation, no nothing. 'I don't see anything on record for you' she said...."Please please re-check again" i said. 3 days of of wondering and hoping teaches you a different kind of patience, the kind that relies solely on the actions of others to take hold. Without a log record that my item had been found, she had to physically look...for what seemed like forever, i waited, and hoped, and wished and waited some more until finally, she re-emerged with a bag i could have recognised from Mars, i was in so much shock that my knees buckled. Could it be? Could it be that there were people who despite the harsh economy, despite 'human nature', despite everything could pick up a stranger's purse and return it. My fingers were shaking so much i couldn't spell my name, i couldn't say thank you enough, i couldn't scream loud enough, never felt happier finding anything in my life.

Here is the kicker! everything was still in the bag> my keys, my phones, my cards, my chequebook, my wallet (they left the wallet) my IDs> well everything that mattered...the cash was gone and the so was the bottle of my favourite perfume. I assumed a woman found the bag and would have given her the cash myself if she'd returned it. I couldn't believe that anyone would leave 2 smartphones in a purse untouched. My friends think the cash must have been 'lost' in transfer, that someone at the office claimed their 'processing' fee from the 'finders' fee. it didn't matter. i didn't care who did what, when. I was simply grateful to have the rest of my shit and even more grateful that i hadn't spent a shit load of money to replace the every things i now had in my possession.

I was so shocked and speechless i had to grab my chest to keep it from dislodging from my body.

Apparently, grown people need keys,phones, cards, cheque books to do everyday grown up shit. without these, life slowssssssssss down in the most 'unusual ' way.

This weekend would have been SHIT if i had to wait to find out . 3 days was enough stress that i could handle and i hope to never every feel that way again.

So this weekend, i laughed harder than i had every laughed and shared unforgettable moments with the people who stuck around with me and stayed up with me and cried for me and gave up their three days of peace to worry and hope for me. so this weekend I smiled brighter , danced harder, screamed louder , partied harder all because i felt little more human than i felt in a while....

I have so much gratitude at the moment and relief obviously. but most importantly i simply realised that all my good Karma finally kicked in. I am not religious . I am no angel or saint (and couldn't care to be). But i do believe in a constant flow of chain reactions. I do believe that being a good person is something anyone can be regardless of who they pray to every night. I do believe that when you genuinely give your all to others when it matters the most, you will get when you need it the most. i sincerely believe that doing unto others as you would like done to you goes a long way into aligning your Karma into a positive outcome.

My best friend said i was lucky and the thing is i never felt particularly lucky or particularly hopeful or optimistic (i am cynical after all) but this weekend , i felt that faith can be whatever you make it. Mum seems to think God had something to do with it and some say the universe was watching....I don't know...what i do know is that human beings can be good to one another if we choose to. Love is the greatest gift you can give or receive. Anyone who 's ever been in love can attest to the power of those 4 little words. Or maybe you got your heart broken in a million pieces, there is no denying its influence over our lives. still, i think there are certain quotes about love that are just rubbish. ..." all is fair in love and war" whoever thought of something so ridiculous? There is no fairness in love spats, sometimes one person has to give in to keep the peace, there is nothing 'fair' in heartbreaks, someone is bound to get hurt the most, even worse you can be unlucky in love and get cheated on and i can't imagine anything 'fair' there...even with all this, we still give love a fair chance .... we fall madly in love even when we know that heartbreak is a possibility, how is that two people who may not have otherwise met if not for a chance encounter can fall so deeply in love, their lives intertwined into dizzying moments of ecstasy, fights, breakups and makeups and everything in between. 1 plus 1 can equal 2 but it can also add up to 11 depending on how you look at it....

Still...

Love can be gift or a curse depending on who's making the case. But to give it and receive it right back is the most beautiful thing.

I have had a thing for cowry shells for as long as i could remember and have collected them from every where for many many years ...My new collection is called "Dowry Cowry" , i will explain that in detail in my next post but it is inspired by everything i love, have loved and will always love. Thing is i had to stop hording my precious shells and put them to good use. Re-imagine, Re-use, Re-New.

these are just two of the first samples i created , they are the smallest of the bunch. I let my imagination and knack for mix/match take over the creation process. There are more than 20 different styles and about 5 distinct sizes in the line up and no one piece is the same. Working on shooting, styling and shipping them out to all my lovely clients/buyers. i have way to many updates but i don't even know
where to start.

Like someone wise told me the other day> there are better days ahead.

I have had to make some difficult changes this summer and i needed to cope with it in my own way. Do-Over of sorts was what the doctor ordered. A change of scenery is what my soul craves...Not every change is good. some change you just can't help...some you can't control...some seem quite necessary at the time , some takes some getting used to....some you never see coming. Before the Autumn leaves start falling and the tan of Summer all but fades, i needed a reminder that i was still alive, i needed to feel the power i know we all have within , the power to make choices, the power to change the things we can if and when we can. the power to control how we live and how we want to be remembered.

Whether your 'frugal' ways is by choice or circumstance

i wear them not because i have to but because i love the feeling i get when i am in them; knowing that i put my own stamp on something is a major confidence booster. I am a conscious stylist..no shame in my game. I would rather look like a flea market poster child than look fashion desperate....

I save my personal drama for myself for the most part but share my personal style with the world...in a way the vibrant personality and wardrobe have provided a sort of protective barrier between me and the world...

I think it was William Somebody who famously proposed what we've come to accept... 'the world is a stage'....and in my opinion it definitely helps to recognize and either accept or reject whichever role you were born to play, will like to play.... it helps to know the play...some play well, others just get played...when the curtain falls, some make it into the next act, others get shuffled about, the rest sit and hope to make the next cut.

The play of life, tragic at times, dramatic sometimes and even comedic can get re-staged at any time without warning. Any Broadway patron knows that mishaps are part of the drama but as they say in theater, the show must go on...whether you like it or not, whether you are prepared or not, you may not even be properly dressed....as they say and continue to say, such is life...i say life is a series of events happening all at once....sometimes life's good, sometimes it just sucks...

I can't blame it all on my cynicism but i can no longer attest to fate as it relates to Life but i do acknowledge Luck. the way i see it, alot of the things people mistake for fate are sometimes just bouts of 'lucky' moments aligned into the 'right' moments. Alot of life is really just clusters of chain reactions set in motion... Some people get over on life and benefit, some cope with the random ordering and some just get the shortest end of the stick...

Fate and Karma get all the attention but not much attention is paid to Luck ...alot of our wins in life is just luck....some people are luckier simply because they are prettier, taller, richer, nicer, younger
some are lucky by no effort or fault of their own but simply inherit the luck of their parents,good or bad; even still, a few people are luckier simply because they took a gamble and learned to surround themselves with other lucky people thereby multiplying their luck quota by that much more....
here is another way to look at it, think about your own life, there are things you have that you didn't ask for but you still got anyway, like living in a 'free' country or being able to afford life even if you do so on credit , now compare that to someone who lives in say Somalia who will probably die anyway because they weren't born lucky...lucky enough to be born into a country where water is not a luxury and food isn't a lottery.

Consider the bottom line, at any given time, because of your luck, someone else is going to have to go without; for you to win, someone has to loose ;if you are 'blessed', consider yourself lucky, some people from the day they meet earth appear cursed....they pray for the same blessings but never get it, they keep the same faith but 'Fate' doesn't seem that interested in their cause..

so we say 'such is life', 'life is fair', 'you get what you get' blah blah blah..and instead of feeling bad , what do we do ? we rationalize.... if for nothing else so we can sleep better at night..even if you are generous enough to pray for world peace or petition the Universe to reverse the fate of those who are less fortunate, the truth is that someone's life is still going to suck, we are still going to get bad news, even if you can afford some good luck or can buy some bit of happiness, one day your luck could turn upside down and throw your life off balance and cause another chain reaction.....don't lose your mojo

from personal experience, i have learned that no amount of good luck can shield you from some bad luck every now and then and that your wave of luck can sometimes be intertwined with a whole lot of other circumstances...when everything that could ever go wrong all goes wrong at the same time, it gets to be overwhelming, it helps if you know some lucky people who can afford to give away some of their good omen, or a caring shoulder to lean on, a series of bad luck can cripple your will and shift your focus...life is filled with em' we all know that but it still hurts the same...

Go outside and cry if you need to, yell if you have to, take some time out if need be... after you Get Mad, Cry , Raise Hell ...then pull yourself up by whichever boot strap is still attached, throw on some bright shit every chance you get , smile even when you don't mean it, it may not change all your bad luck at once but it could help to make the bad moments appear less wretched so you can i dunno, charm some luck back into life...

if you know the deal with my personal style you know that i am eazy.. i never let something as arbitrary as 'size' get in between my imagination and a piece of clothing. Hangers don't always do clothes justice and body type and fit mean that a piece of clothing could look better or worse on a body frame depending on who is wearing it. it all depends on the person and their personality. sprinkle in some IDGAF 'tude as needed.

case in point.. the main piece.i had this romper in the shop for ages for sale and no one wanted it , i saw its potential but i guess the hanger didn't quite translate that. i 've worn it several ways over the years and each time the outcome has been different, this time i wore it backwards, pulled it off the shoulder and pinned the hem about 2-3 inches than i had in the past and this is what i get.Held the whole thing up with a DIY belt i dreamed up, wrists full of my fav arm candy , that with my wallet purse and one of the most comfortable clogs known to me atm and i made it work...for me.

so it goes without saying....don't worry if your personal take on style/fashion works for everyone, who cares? if you feel like you are making it work, then you better WORK it!!

Idle Hands

New styles and sizes i just finished...(for personal and project purposes) i added some to the SHOP and a few on etsy . because i only make one of each style, not every piece will be listed. i needed to channel my stress elsewhere so instead of displacing or suppressing it i let it take over and consume me. shut off the outside and instead i re-found my love for making fun pieces again.

i am too scared to count just how many of these i have churned out already. if i look i may get distracted and STOP and i don' t wanna, at least not yet.... High Stress mixed with chronic Insomnia have proven unfailingly to be proper inspirations . i don't recommend neither but i feel my most creative when i am left to my own devices, consumed by whatever emo thing i got going at the time... so you see it will be pointless to take my aloofness personally...

before i go , loads of love to you all for still giving somewhat of a fuck about shit i am doing even when i am scarce. there is alot of shit i could post , i am sure the folks who come just for the pictures are thinking 'she must have run out of shit to wear' and the rest who come for the random rants are thinking 'she must have run out of things to say'....haha! As if! wouldn't that just be sooo funny if that were the case?????

Zen Collection

when i said i was churning these out in the last post, i wasn't joking! believe it or not there is much more in store, i will add some to the shop and etsy as some of you have shown interest. my insomnia is my motivation really...i haven't been in the mood for much else but creating and creating i will ....there are too many outfits to wear and post but all i just want to do is make shit.

Because i want to keep the 'one of a kind' element of these, each piece is created with that feeling in mind. i am not formally trained in any way in making these, i go with what i feeling..i imagine something, i make it...that simple. no tutorials,no books, no inspiration wall....just me sprawled onto the floor with my bag of tricks and beads, going to work...zoned out, it's kind of exhilarating , for me anyway...free styling and creating whatever pops into my head...no rules, no guidelines, no boundaries....in this zone, hours feel like minutes... for hours on end , thing is nothing is holding my interest so intensely...not the internet, not social networking....

that's it really...i can't put down the beads and twine, i have withdrawal if i am not with them , it's that obsession to touch them that is keeping me sane...it makes me forget that i never get enough sleep, it makes me forget that i haven't been updating as before, it makes the heat not seem so unbearable...i have tons and tons of looks to post so no worries there, even cooked up a couple of fun projects i hope to be getting into yet all i want to do is just play with my beads...sounds crazy and it is, you should see me hunched over at 3am in the morning getting all 'spiritual' w/my beads....at the moment, it is my Zen...well as Zen as someone as creatively hyperactive can get....

so i figured i will call it the Zen Collection for that reason... if you want one, let me know, if you want me to create you a special piece let me know, i will just keep making these till my fingers find something else to get into or until i find something else to fixate on....that much is assured.

i don't really see the point of holding back your 'crazy' just to make other people feel comfortable... I am not really sure what good it would do to dial back on your chosen form of expression just to seem normal and 'relatable'. We live in a world that preaches individuality and the importance of celebrating diveristy on one hand but expects conformity at the end of the day. for the most part, it has proven difficult to navigate where respect begins and rhetoric ends. Acceptance of others and their lifestyle choices isn't something that comes to us naturally, we are human afterall, created unequally but forced to live an existence where our differences separate rather than bring us closer.

since we know all this, i won't tell you some BS that the world is going to love you for who you are...
it won't happen. transfer that burden elsewhere. what's the point in waiting for the time things turn around to start living? waiting for that moment when everyone suddenly gives a fuck is like waiting for a dog to grow horns....evolution or not, it ain't gonna happen'....

Whatever you are waiting for to happen, you can cut that waiting time by a whole lot if you rearrange the 'equation of expectation'. shift the focus. who are you waiting on to accept, love and validate you?what are you hoping will make you turn into 'somebody' who is worthy of respect, adoration and love. family, friends, lovers? or maybe what you want is what every woman wants , perhaps you waiting for the fashion world to suddenly turn around and accept every woman and every body and every colour....ain't gonna happen.

Reclaim that responsibility and find a way to make you be enough. work on the shit you can change and live your best life, the one you create, the one you have chosen, the one you wouldn't have to struggle to upkeep. easier said than done, but it can be done and really the only person who you can truly control and influence is yourself.... so instead of waiting for Vogue to tell you that you are beautiful, develop a positive relationship with your mirror and find a way to make what you have work for your reality. instead of waiting for the media to validate your reality, reflect your self. why can't you be someone you can look up to? why can't you be someone who is inspirational and not merely looking up to others?why complicate life any more by accepting every limitation the world has placed on you? why live in a perpetual dissatisfaction with your self and your station?

I don't think women give themselves enough credit or enough respect.
for fear of coming off as 'conceited' some women recoil at the thought of bringing attention to themselves. running away from your self won't make you catch up to the world. we spend entirely too much of our short time in this life trying to be 'somebody'... somebody that others will love, but what if it happens that no one loves you? shouldn't life still go on?

here is a tip or two:

Refuse to downplay your intelligence or your beauty or your confidence or anything that makes you walk with your head held up high. Take pride in your resilience and celebrate your strengths, you have more of them than you have taken time to notice. pat yourself in the back when you need to. cheer yourself on if you have to. you deserve to worry less about how others feel about you so you can focus on your own feelings about yourself. Self Actualize...Self conviction: believe in the you that that feels 'right' for you. You first, everyone else can get in where they fit.i think we get too wrapped up in what the world isn't delivering to us that we fail to take out time to validate ourselves.

The world will want to cage you into a box. The other truth is even worse: the ~~more time passes~~ older you get, that box will get infinitely smaller ... social norms and responsibilities will make it so you have to rearrange your entire self to fit into that box, no matter how tiny. choose which side of the box you want to be on...you can be in with the rest of them or stand alone with the few....

The idea of maturing goes beyond just getting older and being 'grown'. maturity is not something that comes after you get that corner office or get that coveted promotion. you could move up in the world and still be caged in a box. it is a mind thing. maturity isn't predetermined by your station in life and regardless of what anyone says life experiences doesn't bestow maturity,you can live , thrive and get old.... doesn't mean that you evolve into your potential self....

now what does all of this have to do with the outfit? Alot! i am well aware that most people are drawn to me for what i know to be the obvious reasons :you like the way i wear my hair or the way i wear my clothes or the way i look or the way i seem or maybe you don't....the reasons won't matter. i am not so worried that people won't get to know the 'real' me or like me for me...i know me and i like me so the burden is shifted. i am however worried that some people unfortunately won't get to know themselves when they still have time to relish in it. i am worried that some young women that see me will never allow themselves the freedom they so desperately seek choosing instead to live vicariously through others...

my message on this earth is simple....Know thyself.

Know who you are, who you want to be. Become it ,own it. Don't accept being told you are less than you believe yourself to be...this may all seem 'tired' but i think it is worth repeating so someone somewhere who may need to hear it, does....

i will be adding a limited number of these bags to the shop. it also comes in a gorgeous coral-orange. as far as capacity goes, this bag manages to hold a 13" laptop, 2 phones, a magazine, an umbrella ,wallet and other everyday randoms while still keeping its shape. it is buttery soft to the touch and fully lined with a fun animal print liner with enough compartments to hold all your day time essentials . i can't recommend 'em enough.

so here is the thing, as far as pieces i wear on the blog, i am trying to find a fine medium with posting/listing items anytime they are available for purchase... i tend to wear things when i get to them which means that some of them are unavailable by the time i debut them. i get asked all the time about pieces that are seasons/months/many posts old so to make it easier i will try when i can to share some of the items that i think you may be interested so you can get them while you still can. if you desire/crave/want/need it, speak up..call dibs!

on days when i can't be bothered or feel 'hormonal' i am all about maxi dresses or baggy things in general ...i like my body to roam free hence my pull toward things that are carefree and on the loose end. but you already know all this don't u? a young boy told me the other day that he liked my style , he said it was 'afrocentric' ! i just smiled. i love that my 'African-ness' is written all over my me like a sign board! matter of fact, it's weird that Africa is suddenly considered 'cool' and mainstream. that Africa and things that seem ethnic are in vogue. the hype was lonnnnnnnnnnggggg overdue if you ask me... i mean considering that i have been African all my life, the rest of the world seems to be kinda of late in terms of catching on....somehow deep down i feel like the young boy was referring to my afro and not my 'afroness' you know, like he could care less if i was infact African, like all he saw was bighair and markers that looked 'ethnic'. lets face it, the misconceptions about my motherland will not be fixed just because the mainstream gives us a 'cool' pass or because black people suddenly discovered their roots (pun intended). Being African is not a statement for me, it is a state of being. regardless of what i sound like , what i look like or where i have lived ....African is all i will ever be.

Long time no see>>> legs, blog.. blog legs! come to think of it, i really can't remember the last time it was truly warm enough around these parts to go a FULL day without mother nature changing her mind. i always had one foot out the door and both feet in tights or coverage of some sort... it was freezing just the other day!! all that went out the window...the weather man called for nice weather after all so for work me, my reworked vintage dress and my emancipated legs took him at his word. we didn't regret it...well my allergies, pesky little nuisance that she is wasn't impressed by any of this....not in the least bit!

i call this chiffon polka dot dress a 'wonder dress' , can be worn in various altered states: mini, midi and every length in between with different fit/shape options. my kinda of deal. in the right size, the multiple options may not be possible.... that's it really ,just because the tag says the wrong size, doesn't mean you can't make it work.

boudoir inspired

the contents of my wardrobe had at it...and i let them duke it out. the weather didn't help matters and the lighting couldn't be any ~~badder~~ worse... but that's just the details...

there was NO WAY in hell i was going to wear this VS robe as intended, indoors...why would i, how could anyone? but then again, from my personal interaction with actual people, what i wear either makes sense to the world or it doesn't , it either adds up or it doesn't...to sum it up i think the least complicated way to describe the whole thing is like this...at some point in my ensemble, people get it but somewhere between the accessories and hair and random mismatch, i lose 'em....basically speaking, 'i don't dress to impress, i guess i dress to confuse'...for the most part.

here is another thought, if the only reason you aren't dressing as loud, as mad, as happy as (insert adjective) is because you are worried about whether people are going to get it or like it, rethink your thinking and think about them less... how does it make you feel? like really make you feel...

express yourself as loudly or as quietly as you choose, the point is that you actually choose and own that choice instead of letting others tell you how you should lean.

i don't want to inspire you to dress as 'crazy' as i do or to be as 'off' as i am, i want to hopefully inspire you- with my ' crazy offness' to get in touch with your 'You' side, to approach you expressions with the same conviction you do with everything else you care about. you only get one life, this is it ! so wear what you want, like what you like, feel how you want, but do it on your own terms so you are not always doubting or second guessing everything you do....

here is to you feeling and being as fearless as you want to be and for giving less of a fuck about what the world thinks and hopefully finding your conviction in style, in love, in life in general.....

i personally think that the way you see yourself greatly affects the way others see you, if you see yourself as shit, people will think it is okay to treat you like shit.

the case has already been made about the importance of loving yourself but i want to advocate for 'like'

i know FB and social networking has irrevocably altered the meaning of the word 'like' but i believe it to be at times more important than love when it comes to matters of the self. it is relatively easy to love yourself or someone else for that matter ....

Do you like who you are as a person? would you like you if you were someone else, do you know what makes you tick? do you know your limits and what you are willing or not willing to do? can you stand yourself ...?understanding the things that make you 'you' will go a long way into helping you change the things you can change about yourself and accept the things you cannot.

confidence isn't something that just happens because you are tall, pretty, thin, hot, rich,smart etc

you have to be aware of your 'self' . self consciousness. worry less about how others see you and concentrate a bit more on how you see yourself. it sounds obvious, but from my daily interactions with seemingly 'confident, independent women', i realize just how removed some women are from their own self. it is easy to find people who love you, it is even easier to make yourself appear to be someone that others can love or even like... it is human nature to seek approval from others and flattery from others can do wonders for the ego but if you are not in a place where you actually like yourself , you will live your whole life 'other dependent'.. feeding from the energies of others which will be hard to sustain if that energy tank suddenly depletes. find more things about yourself to like other than just your body or physical attributes that wat you don't just know or think you are worth it but you actually feel it.

buying the latest 'in' thing will feel good for a moment but investing in your own self worth will go a long way into helping you sustain the high long after said thing is 'out'.

i don't know how to say this without overselling or underselling myself but i am extremely good at shopping - for myself or other people- so good apparently, that i have accumulated enough over the years to probably run a proper brick and mortar storefront if i had a storefront to move into....ha! but that's the btw.

eek. self timers and red eye correctors be damned. Had to eat, so i went and eat i did. nothing like an over-sized silk tux jacket to balance things...made shit even and less awkward.

i feel like i get too many questions about how comfortable the 'stilts' on my feet truly are. ha, i' d say this, flats are harder to walk in at times, the trick to wearing these near six inchers for long periods of time is wearing one with a substantial platform. foot beds and insoles count too. but if you are flatfooted with little or no arch on your feet, heels will do their most to make you very uncomfortable, in which case i'd recommended almost never leaving the house without double padding your heels...your feet will thank you later.

on the scale of 1-10, with 10 being most comfortable, these are about 9.5 in terms of comfort. don't let the heel height scare you, the platforms are there simply to neutralize the situation. No pain, More gain.

what to do with a tube below the knee jersey dress with no life, do some weird tying and pulling to 'mini'mize the length . contrary to what my camera show, this dark blue is more like a dark purple...between cutting shit up and repurposing an abandoned necklace into a bracelet, i found time to relace my boots.

i have said this many many many times so here is one more... do believe that your lovely emails and nice compliments are overwhelmingly sweet...thank you. i am sorry that i can't give in to everyone or respond to every request..it's not you sometimes, it is me. my mind doesn't always go with what my heart would love to do.....i would like to accept all invitations but i can't...
